DRIVE Arts Ministry 2007-2008 Overview
We have made changes to the 2007-2008 DRIVE Arts ministry that we feel will make this year and even better success from previous years. The changes we have made were directly connected to the fact that 3 of our key instrumentalists in the DRIVE band graduated in May of 2007 which leaves us without an instrumental band. We also feel that changes are needed in order to create more unity within the program between adult leadership and youth.
DRIVE Arts which stands for Developing Responsible Individuals through Vivid Expression All Relating To Service, will have a strong focus on worship, training, and spiritual growth. Our goal for this year is to bring all of the youth involved in the DRIVE Arts ministry together as one worship team. We will have time as a large group and then breaking into smaller development groups.
How This All Will Work.
This year DRIVE Arts will meet from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday evenings. Development groups will be put into place in order to teach and instruct youth on how to be worship leaders, instrumentalists, and other areas pertaining to worship arts that the youth themselves will choose as they feel they are being called by God. Lessons will be provided to youth to teach them how to play instruments, sing, and other worship art forms.
A Typical DRIVE Arts Evening.
Each week all the youth participating in DRIVE Arts will meet as a large group for a time of worshipping together and a devotional time that will introduce each week's topic. (See Attached DRIVE Arts 2007/2008 Outline) Each week we will be in relationship with God and each other and spiritually centering ourselves on God's call in our lives as it relates to worship and to worship arts. We will then move into our development groups for instruction in the areas that each has chosen. Each development group will then pray at the end of their time together.
Retreats and Trips
We have planned a DRIVE Arts retreats. This will be a camping retreat on October 5,6,7 We believe that it is important for the youth to get away from our everyday routine for a time of spiritual renewal, growth and also to just have fun together with other youth. Our annual Lake Junaluska trip will be in June of 2008.
Service
The DRIVE Arts ministry will lead 3 Contemporary worship services in 2007-2008 as well as a service at Wesley Glen Ministries, perform in a talent show, lead worship as part of a youth rally, and sing Christmas Carols at a nursing home and/or Children's hospital.
What You Need to Know
All youth wanting to take musical lessons will need to have their own instruments. For example a bass player will need to have a bass; a guitar player will need to have his/her own guitar, etc. Amplifiers would be optional since Riverside has a few amps. If you plan to play drums, Riverside owns a drum set that can be used but you would need your own drum sticks.
